The evenings are in Dutch and you are very welcome to join if you can understand Dutch (a bit)
Meditation, what is it?
Mostly it is a standstill in the hustle and bustle of life and allowing yourself a moment of tranquility. Everybody can do it. Meditation already has a positive effect on your health and happiness if you practice it for a couple of minutes per day. When meditating you unwind. You let go of stress and create space and overview in your life. It helps to relax and you get to know your true nature.
Besides that meditation has a lot of health benefits. It strengthens you immune system and lowers the concentration of stress hormones in your body. Your blood pressure lowers and your body calms and recovers itself. When you are able to control stress, you become healthier. Several studies show that people who meditate regularly, visit their doctor fewer times.
So meditation can achieve a lot but just when you need it the most it can be difficult to have the discipline to actually do it. A group meditation is a nice method to stimulate the drive to meditate. After the evening you’ll feel yourself invigorated and energetic.
We have two BLOOMers giving the meditation evenings, both with a different style. Alexandra focusses on visualization and Charlotte brings in the Mindfulness aspect.
Group meditation by Alexandra Vos – Visualisation
The guided meditation and visualization evenings by Alexandra are very down-to-earth. During a guided meditation you let yourself being carried away on a voice, in essence you go on a little journey and return lighter and more relaxed.
By the way, did you know that our brains don’t care if you actually see something or just imagine it? This means that a visualized image has the same impact on the brains as looking at something in real life. During the guided meditation this fact is used to reach an optimal relaxation and give you an energy boost.
The sessions normally takes place in our building at the Koninginnegracht, but with good weather we might meet at the beach, dunes or forest.
Group meditation by Charlotte Gmelig Meijling – Mindfulness
During these meditation evenings we practice Mindfulness (Vapassana) meditation. We practice to be perceptive of whatever there may be and we train our focus. You can compare this meditation with putting down a big pot filled muddy water: the mud is the buzz in our head and heart. If you put down the pot without doing anything, the mud can settle. So by sitting and only pay attention to the movement of breathing, the mind is able to calm down and more clarity and quietness arises.
Alexandra is an energetic therapist and interested in connecting the regular care and the complementary therapies. After having worked in the business life in the fields of fashion, television and expat relocation she decided to follow her passion: make people feel better. She loves to connect, share, communicate, learn, discover and enjoy life. For this she completed several studies and courses.
Charlotte Gmelig Meijling
Charlotte has an inquisitive and open mind, a useful quality in her work as a mindfulness trainer and psychosocial therapist. She doesn’t pretend to have the monopoly on wisdom. It’s ok to be at your wit’s end and learn from life. During her career in the commercial sector (a.o.’manager at ‘Joop van den Ende’) she realized she got a burst of energy coaching and supporting colleagues and she decided to chance her course.
